Objectives

Estimate waterbird populations and identify species of conservation concern.

Build local capacity through training workshops on wetland monitoring and conservation.

Assess the major threats to the integrity of wetlands and forests, including human pressures and predation.

Document the biodiversity and ecological importance of the wetlands and surrounding habitats.

Prepare and submit a complete Ramsar nomination dossier to the Malagasy authorities.

12 waterbird species identified so far, including the black-banded plover, Humboldt's heron, lesser flamingo, and wood sandpiper.

3 local fieldworkers trained in bird monitoring and data collection.

9 nests of black-banded plover located and monitored during the 2025 breeding season.

13 forest bird species so far, including long-tailed ground roller, subdesert mesite, and running coua.

45 local stakeholders engaged, including Blue Ventures, Velondriake LMMA, and the University of Toliara.
